St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge, just south
of Tallahassee, Florida. November? I don't
remember the exact time of year I made this
image - I do remember the no-see-ums (and
that's the scientific name for sand gnats that
WILL drive you crazy) There is a beautiful
lighthouse at the end of the road - beyond that
are marsh and sort of a beach. I was walking
and trying not to be eaten by bugs, and noticed
these reddish succulent type marsh plants
(another scientific name...) If you looked down
at them, they had a nice reddish color - if you
got low to the ground and looked across them
with a long lens, they made this cool pattern
and color. Butterfly and bird watchers love
this place. So do I.
