Skipper Ranch, Sebring, Florida. February 2008.
I photographed a wedding on this property a
year earlier, and asked for permission to
return sometime to photograph this 1600 acre
Ranch. The most gracious owners (Donald and
Patty) set me up with an old jeep, and I was
able to wander the property for a few days. The
ranch is 3 miles long and has several different
features - hammocks, small wetlands, and flat
grasslands dotted with Palm Trees. On the
morning I was to leave, these two resident
cranes (Several hundred cranes migrate to
Florida and stay on the ranch in the winter,
but these stay all year) were curious enough to
let me get close and make this photograph.
Sometimes you just get lucky!
